Senior Software Test Engineer

Job Purpose
Working for the global number one provider of server based cryptographic security systems at the Company's Cambridge headquarters you will participate in the creation of a growing portfolio of products that already includes a diverse range of network appliances and PCI hardware security modules. nCipher also produces a range of software developer kits and value added applications that provide innovative solutions to real world business problems such as secure digital time stamping, enterprise level cryptographic key management and secure Internet PIN delivery. nCipher has an exciting, innovative research and development team that's involved in full lifecycle product development: through specification, design, implementation and test of software systems for complex security critical applications. As a key member of the Quality Engineering (Q.E.) department, you will play a major role in the specification, design, implementation and review of test suites for new and existing products on a range of modern computing platforms, well supported throughout by training programs and mentoring schemes.

Main Accountabilities:
• To develop test suites for all software modules to meet the product requirements specified by Product Management under the direction of the Project Manager and Lead Test Engineer.
• To work within, and contribute to, systems and procedures to ensure the integrity and robustness of all software deliverables and to identify in advance possible problem areas in a proposed project and provide suitable feedback to the Quality Engineering Manager.
• To contribute to the writing and review of lifecycle documentation, user level documentation, technical application notes and training material as required by the Quality EngineeringManager.
• To provide reliable estimates of task duration, contribute to feasibility/evaluation activities and contribute fully to the peer review process as required by the Quality Engineering Manager.
• To provide reliable, consistent, timely and accurate technical assistance to both first line support staff and development partners on issues relating to the use of nCipher's products.
• To keep abreast of technical and market trends in relation to the company's product range and to propose product improvements.
• To provide help and/or supervision to other team members under the direction of the Quality Engineering Manager.
Qualifications:
• Educated to degree level or equivalent, in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or other relevant discipline.
Knowledge
• A detailed knowledge of programming using multiple programming languages on multiple platforms and environments including Windows and UNIX based operating systems.
• A detailed working knowledge of design and implementation of large or significant products using C# or C++.
• A good working knowledge of scripting languages and development tools.
• A good understanding of the use of cryptography and associated concepts in IT security.
• An awareness of Internet technologies, protocols and standards.

Experience
At least two years industrial experience developing test software for large or complex products using C# or C++
Experience of at least four of the following:
• Unix & Windows full lifecycle software development
• Cryptography and computer security techniques.
• Enterprise application test development.
• Electronic commerce.
• The use of formal software testing procedures and systems.
• Working in a highly skilled and specialized software development environment

Skills
• The ability to analyse complex technical problems and offer innovative, reasoned and practical solutions to demanding requirements.
• Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and mentor/coach other team members.
• The ability to prioritise, manage own workload, be flexible, work under pressure and to demanding deadlines.
• The ability to bring together multiple technical aspects of a software development project and play an integral role in the software test design and implementation activities.
• A team player able to work in a dynamic and exciting environment.
• The ability to quickly integrate and make a significant contribution.
