Solution Overview

nCipher’s nShield Hardware Security Modules (HSM) have been tested to fully interoperate with Tumbleweed’s Enterprise Validation Authority servers, Document Authority Servers and Transaction Authority servers, bringing added security, performance and scalability to applications that rely on the integrity of digital certificates and electronic signatures.
nShield’s powerful processing capacity and FIPS 140-1 level 3 validated hardware combine to speed signing operations, increase the throughput of Tumbleweed signed responses and protect Tumbleweed key operations from compromise.

Online Validation for PKI Technology
Combining nShield with Tumbleweed’s Valicert Enterprise Validation Authority creates a highly secure environment within a PKI for online validation. nShield works with the Valicert Enterprise Validation Authority to:

• Securely sign certificate validation responses
• Protect key operations used in the signing process within FIPS 140-1 level 2 and level 3 hardware facilities
• Deliver advanced key management capabilities through an easy-to-use graphic interface
• Dramatically increase the throughput of signed responses, enabling Tumbleweed’s Enterprise Validation Authority to efficiently process up to 400 signatures per second
