FIPS – Federal Information Processing Standard

Published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the FIPS 140 standard originated from requirements specified by the US Federal Government for the protection of sensitive data.  It is now the de-facto industry benchmark in validating the effectiveness of cryptographic hardware. 

Organizations use the FIPS 140 standard to ensure that the hardware they are selecting meets the standards and requirements for the highest level of protection. nCipher solutions meet or exceed the FIPS 140 standard.
